My quilting history

I grew up thinking I was doing what every other normal girl/kid does growing up.  I rode bicycles, played ball, had friends....but I always loved sewing.  My mom had an old Kenmore in the cabinet and about the 2nd grade in Girl Scouts, I discovered the love of sewing.  We made a pillow and I got to use mom's machine. I don't remember who taught me to use the machine,  but I loved that machine.  It had the knee press to make the machine sew.  Just to jump forward quickly, I purchased a lovely Janome 6600 a few years ago, and it has the knee press, only it moves the pressure foot up and down.  I can't tell you how many times I would press that thing to make the machine go, only to move the foot up!  Anyhow, back to my beginnings of becoming a seamstress.  As I became more involved in sewing, mom finally let me put the sewing machine in my room.  I had these 2 windows that look out over the side yard, and I would sit there and sew and make doll clothes.  Eventually, with the help of my friend Lori, we began sewing our own clothing. Through the years now, I have made clothes for my children, curtains for bedroom and kitchens, and a few crafts.  I always felt though, like something was missing.  My mom really wasn't a sewer.  She was more interested in lounging in the pool and her cigarettes!  My grandmother, her mom; like to crochet, and I never caught that bug.  It wasn't until 2007, when I walked into a Hancocks and saw this beautiful quilt called the Journey quilt, that I thought...I have admired quilts my entire life and never gave a thought to making one.  I purchased the whole kit and started in.

Little did I know that this would ignite a passion that I never knew existed.  I now know why I am here on this earth....to be a grandma and to quilt!

My first blog attempt

I have always wanted to blog about my quilting and family, but have never taken the time to start the process.  I happened upon a blog and after thinking, decided, why not?  So, here is my first blog.  Will add pictures and ideas next.
